The Story Behind Philosophy Studio

When people ask me what Philosophy Studio is, I often say it’s more than just furniture. It’s a way of bringing warmth, thoughtfulness, and calm into the spaces where we spend most of our time. But behind the name, there’s me — Harmandeep — and a simple story of how craft, family, and philosophy came together.

Who I Am

I live in Melbourne with my partner, Mumal, our son Jaiden, and our two golden retrievers, Dora and Marlee. For more than a decade, I worked in the corporate world. But at the same time, I was drawn to the workshop — to wood, tools, textures, and the kind of quiet satisfaction that comes from making something with your own hands. Furniture making started as a passion, a way to create things that felt lasting, useful, and beautiful.

What I Do

Philosophy Studio is my way of shaping that passion into a practice. I design and craft furniture in our Melbourne studio — from whisky cabinets to bookshelves and desks — each piece made to order with care and intention. Alongside that, I curate objects from makers around the world that share the same spirit: incense, matchboxes, trays, and other pieces that invite ritual, slowness, and reflection. Together, they form a collection that celebrates not just furniture, but a way of living.

Why I Do It

Because our homes should be more than functional. They should hold stories, rituals, and a sense of calm. I believe good design isn’t about excess or speed — it’s about creating things that last, things that feel good to use every day, things that quietly enrich our lives.

Philosophy Studio is my attempt to offer that: furniture and objects made for people who value thoughtfulness, craft, and the romance of time well spent.

A Note from Me

This is just the beginning. I look forward to sharing this journey with you — the pieces I create, the objects I curate, and the stories that inspire them. Thank you for being here, and for letting Philosophy Studio become a small part of your own story.
